During Tribes in the
month of December, EIS will be discussing
caring, or feeling and showing concern for
others. People who are caring are kind,
considerate, charitable and loving. They
show genuine concern for others. As a
school, we would like to continue being
involved in community service projects to
help enhance the development of generosity
and helpfulness to others. The students will
be learning about different organizations
and how they help our community. They will
be encouraged to think about ways they can
contribute to our society and the steps they
can take to become involved. Students will
be asked questions such as:
- What are some
special ways to show caring for others
who are less fortunate during December?
- Why should we
volunteer in the community?
- Do you know
anyone who volunteers in the community?
Although at times children are very
self-centered, they naturally have very
generous hearts. Think about how their light
up when they know they have helped someone.
You can encourage a continuation of this
innocent kindness by acknowledging your
child when he/she demonstrates a concern for
the feelings of another. As adults, we can
model caring by showing affection to our
children by hugging and holding them, and
listening to them attentively. Bake cookies
together for an elderly neighbor. Have them
write a letter to a grandparent. Write a
note of appreciation to someone who has been
kind to your family. Show tenderness and
concern for our environment and the
creatures within it. Children who show
gentleness toward animals will show the same
caring attitude toward people.
The week before Winter Break, we will be
discussing pride, which is satisfaction from
doing your personal best. Students will be
asked questions such as:
- Is pride ever a bad thing?
- Is there a difference between pride
and self-confidence?
- Should you feel pride when you have
done your personal best, but fail?
We will discuss why we are proud of our
school and make posters displaying school
pride. Ask your child what actions they can
do at school to show they are proud of our
school. Most importantly, look for every
opportunity to tell your child just how
proud you are of them!
